Once accepted, your pages are added to a database of sites that powers search results for Yahoo!, Alta Vista, AlltheWeb and others, and your pages are re-crawled every 48 hours to ensure that the content is up-to-date. Search results are still presented based on their relevancy, making optimization still very important.

Advertising - Most of the major search engines offer "paid placement listings", which are basically ads that are guaranteed noticable placement, usually in relation to keyword searches. The exact position of these listings can vary. Sometimes, they appear above the results listings, or at the bottom of editorial content. "Sidebar" style listings run alongside the search engine's results page.

Pay-Per-Click advertising (PPC) is a rapidly growing phenomenon and one of the easiest and most effective methods available for marketing your web site. Google Adwords and Overture Precision Match are the most used of these programs.
